Electric power systems across the world are undergoing a paradigm shift toward clean and sustainable energy sources. This shift involves technical and organizational level changes along with technological upgrades in various sectors such as energy generation, transmission, and distribution. Consequently, there arise huge engineering challenges to create a sustainable energy system considering social, economic, and environmental factors. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology with attractive features such as deep learning, cross-border integration, man-machine cooperation, open group intelligence, and autonomous control has a great potential in solving the power system engineering challenges and reshaping the way of producing and utilizing the electrical energy. In particular, the combination of artificial intelligence with cloud computing, big data, internet of things (IoT), and mobile interconnection can endow the power system with features of intelligent interaction, safety, and controllability. Thus, the security, reliability, and flexibility of the power grid can be significantly improved. The goal of this special session is to attract and highlight the latest developments in the area of application of artificial intelligence in electric power systems. Reviews, surveys and research articles are welcome to submit to this special session.
